Introduction
Each year, 6th grade students at Chamberlain Middle School have the opportunity to attend the Joy Outdoor Education Center, or better known as Camp Joy, where they will spend a total of 3 days and 2 nights experiencing and exploring all that Joy has to offer. The Joy Outdoor Education Center is located just a few miles outside the small town of Clarksville, Ohio. While at camp, students participate in Natural History Classes, an Adventure Class, and a Living History Program, as well as various evening activities. Students also get to stay in one of the twelve woodland cabins and participate in "family" style meals in Joy's main dining hall, where they gain valuable life skills. This website offers a more in-depth look at all of the classes and activities that students participate in during the Joy experience.
The Joy Outdoor Education Center, or better known as Camp Joy, is located on 315 acres in the small town of Clarksville in the south-eastern section of Warren County, Ohio. Camp Joy's roots go back to the early 20th century, when the original campus was located in Kentucky, and then moved to a few different
locations in Ohio until settling on the current site. Up until the early 1970s, Camp Joy served as a summer camp destination. In 1972, Camp Joy began their
Outdoor Education program, which continues to host school students from all over the region throughout the school year. Since then, Camp Joy has also introduced a team building and leadership program, offering opportunities for corporations and organizations to hold retreats at Camp Joy and focus on building a positive rapport among team members.
